The First Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Gifted Education Forum was successfully held on January 18, 2025, at the Taipa campus of the City University of Macau (CityU), attracting nearly thirty education experts, scholars, and practitioners from the three regions. Co-organized by the School of Education of CityU and the Macau Gifted Education Association, the forum was supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), co-assisted by the Macau Society of Special Education Research, and hosted by Sunly Education. The event aimed to promote exchange and cooperation among the three regions in gifted and special education, sharing practical experiences and the latest research findings.

At the commencement of the forum, Dr. Ng Kim Cho, Postgraduate Supervisor of the School of Education at CityU and President of the Macau Society of Special Education Research, extended a warm welcome to the guests and participants. He stated that this forum is not only a platform for knowledge sharing but also a vital bridge for fostering collaboration across the regional education sectors.
The forum invited Dr. Ng Kim Cho, Mr. Yeung Ting Bong, Chairman of the Hong Kong Gifted Education Association, and Associate Professor Shi Mengliang from South China Normal University as keynote speakers to introduce the current state of gifted education in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Dr. Ng Kim Cho delivered a presentation titled "Overview of Special Education and Gifted Education in Macao," providing an in-depth analysis of the current development status of special and gifted education in Macao and offering insights into future directions. He emphasized that as society places greater importance on education, the demand for gifted education is increasing, presenting new challenges for educational policymaking.

Mr. Yeung Ting Bong gave a keynote speech titled "How to Learn from the Development and Promotion of Gifted Education in Hong Kong," sharing successful experiences from Hong Kong and exploring how to effectively implement school-based gifted education curricula. He pointed out that the characteristics and learning patterns of gifted students differ significantly from those of general students, requiring educators to adjust teaching methods accordingly to enhance instructional effectiveness.

Associate Professor Shi Mengliang delivered a keynote address titled "The History, Current Situation, and Challenges of Supernormal Education in Mainland China," detailing the historical origins and development of supernormal education in the mainland. He analyzed current challenges and emphasized how to promote the sustainable development of supernormal education within a globalized context.

During the forum, participants spoke enthusiastically, actively engaging in discussions and offering suggestions. There was a consensus that communication in gifted education should be strengthened in the future to make greater efforts toward improving educational quality and promoting educational equity. The success of this forum marks a new starting point for cooperation in the field of gifted education among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. It is hoped that more similar activities will be held in the future to further drive innovative development in the cause of education.
