Professor A.Y.M. Atiquil Islam is a Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Joint Education Institute of Zhejiang Normal University and the University of Kansas, based at Zhejiang Normal University, and is affiliated with the China–Africa Regional Center for Digital Education Cooperation. He also serves as Honorary Chair Professor at the School of Teacher Education, Jiangsu University, and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Educational Information Technology, East China Normal University. Previously, he was Director of the International Graduate Program in Educational Technology at East China Normal University. He earned a multidisciplinary PhD integrating Education and Computer Science & Information Technology at the University of Malaya, where he received the Graduation on Time (GOT 2015) Award and honorarium for completing his PhD in less than three years.
Professor Islam has proposed two complementary approaches for integrating innovative ideas logically: the theoretical approach and the methodological approach. Through these approaches, he developed and validated three influential models: the Technology Adoption and Gratification (TAG) Model, the Technology Satisfaction Model (TSM), and the Online Database Adoption and Satisfaction (ODAS) Model. These models have been widely applied by researchers internationally and have contributed to addressing both theoretical and practical issues across multiple disciplines.
With nearly 22 years of experience spanning academia, industry, and business, Professor Islam has demonstrated strong leadership in business and social organizations and has conducted workshops on Structural Equation Modeling and the Rasch Measurement Model since 2010. He has presented at international conferences and published extensively in leading journals and scholarly outlets. To date, he has published nearly 120 papers in first-class international journals and conferences, served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on research grants totaling over a million yuan, and authored two recent books published by Taylor & Francis Group. One of his articles was recognized as a “Highly Cited Paper” in Essential Science Indicators (ESI) in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Professor Islam maintains active international collaborations and founded the Assessment of Educational Technology (AET) book series with Routledge Taylor & Francis Group in 2024, serving as Lead Editor. He also holds editorial positions in several prominent international journals. His research interests include Assessment of Educational Technology, Artificial Intelligence in Education, Artificial Intelligence in STEM Education, Quantitative Modeling, ICT in Higher Education, Human Computer Interaction, Information Science, Metaverse, New Social Media Analysis, and Virtual Reality.
